What we think of the future and why we are in a virtual world Virtual worlds are the future of the Internet. They will be a plattform for information, ideas, meeting and communication like the 2-dimensional Internet is today. But virtual worlds are also a new medium and for a new medium you have to invent new contents. Just to transfer 2-dimensional contents to a 3-dimensional world is not enough. We invented new 3D-contents - even though most people can't believe that it is possible for every topic before I have shown it to them! We live the Web 3.0 idea even though people still have to find a definition for it. A lively community, interactive teaching, user created events and an environment that makes you believe you are really where your avatar is, is our success. We even offer a virtual world education that is called 3D-Online Pass where people learn all they have to know in order to move around or work in a virtual world - incl. examen and certificate. Some of our tools that we invented, we present in our 'Lernturm' that is located in the Southwest of our vhs Sim in Second Life. We teach via voice but all teachers also put the most important facts into the chat so that students have two ways of getting to know the information. We try not to link to external webpages because we found out that the residents like to do everything inworld. In most cases we can provide all materials inworld. Also our participants in classes don't sit on chairs and we don't use pre-furnished classrooms. Classrooms are "furnished" by the teachers to create a stimulating and individual surrounding for every topic. That can be an American Diner, some Egyptian ruins or a beer brewery, depending on the class topic. A god example for 3D-teaching is our maritime navigation class. Here we can offer simulations that cannot be done in real life classes.
